You can’t have International Coffee Day without water

Everywhere you look today on the web, you will find that it is International Coffee Day.  Some call it National Coffee Day or just plain Coffee Day, but everyone is thinking coffee.  Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts and lots of other cool coffee shops all offer some type of freebies to celebrate the day.

The reason why I mention this is because coffee is 99% water and the quality of the water is directly related to the taste of the coffee.  I find it interesting that if you go to Seattle, Miami, Brooklyn, Dallas or San Francisco, Starbucks coffee tastes the same.  Now maybe you don’t like Starbucks coffee and that’s fine – we all have different tastes.  However, the point is  this:  Starbucks takes great pride in their coffee, and as near as I can tell, they have the same type of water treatment system in every store.

There is another company that makes excellent coffee and that is Brooklyn Water Bagels.  While they are new and have less than 30 locations right now, they have identified that exceptional quality water makes exceptional bagels and coffee.   In the interest of full disclosure, I need to tell you two things:  (1) I am a coffee connoisseur; and (2) I designed the state-of-the-art water treatment system for Brooklyn Water Bagels, which is the cornerstone of their franchise.  They identified early on, that water in Brooklyn, New York was some of the best in the world and hired us to recreate that same water.  I have to confess that their coffee in the best I have ever had and the bagels are light years ahead of anyone.  You owe it to yourself to try a bagel and a cup of coffee from Brooklyn Water Bagels if you haven’t already done so.

They also have a product called Cubista, which is iced coffee made with ice cubes that are made of frozen Brooklyn Water Coffee.  You have never has iced coffee like this.  This may sound like a shameless promo, but the products speak for themselves and I am proud to have designed a sophisticated system to deliver the highest quality water for them.  The water treatment process in a Brooklyn Water Bagels store is the most advanced purification system in the world and utilizes the following processes:

  • Micron Filtration
  • Carbon Filtration
  • Reverse Osmosis
  • De-Ionization (DI)
  • Ultraviolet Disinfection
  • Re-mineralization
  • Sophisticated computer monitoring of all the processes

Brooklyn Water Bagels not only controls the coffee, but they also control the water and when you have control of both, you are bound to have a good product.  It sounds simple, but I have been to Dunkin’ Donuts and other coffee shops that had no water treatment at all.  I can always tell by the taste, because the coffee shouldn’t have to compete with chlorine and other chemicals to impart a robust coffee taste to the water.

Happy International Coffee Day!   I hope your coffee is treated with clean water to give you the best cup possible.  Reverse osmosis is the technology that removes the largest spectrum of contaminants in the water.  Don’t just add coffee to water – add coffee to clean water.  Insist on it!
